Maryanne - Inquiry Art / Kowhaiwhai Design

My Artist I chose are The Suluape Family, they are famous for doing people's Malu's and Pe'a's. They use straight lines for their tattoo. In the olden days, The Suluape family only did their tattoo's for the Samoan people, If you weren't Samoan, they won't get your tattoo done. Line is one of the elements the the Suluape family use in their tattoo's. If you see a Malu, you would see that their are only straight lines in a Malu or a Pe'a. Their are no wavy or zigzag lines in a Malu or a Pe'a. The second element of the Suluape's families is the colour. If you see a Malu or a Samoan tatto the colour of it is normally black and the last element of the malu and pe'a is the texture, If you see a malu or a Samoan pe'a the texture is very dark. So the Suluape family do the malu's and the Samoan pe'a's because they when they see people with Malu's and Samoan pe'a's, It shows that you are a true Samoan and you are very brave for representing the Samoan culture
